Pale Pinion - A first to start April

First day of the month and a new for the garden, otherwise predominantly Orthosias trapped at the moment as per the expectations of the season.

A few others trapped in the last few days of warmer weather of more interest to me at least:

 Twin-spotted Quaker - only a couple of these per year normally

 March Moth - in March of course

 Satellite - surprisingly uncommon in my garden - only four records, two in March, two in November

 Oak Beauty - always nice to see

Grey Shoulder-Knot - three records no for the garden, all in month of March

Squeezing the pot

Numbers are well down now to between zero and four macros and the odd micro each night in the last week. Surprise was a total of nine Juniper Carpets with a maximum of three on one night when I already had a fourth individual in a pot. Specialities of the season though still come along to add to the year list and there are a few more still to get so I will keep the trap out when it is not intending to chuck it down. Nothing new for the garden but all of these were caught last year in single figure numbers.

Winter finally over ?

The three months of November through January were very quiet for Wychwood Moths. The trap was out on many nights that promised temperatures above 3 degrees and little or no precipitation but very few individuals were attracted. Early November had a few remnants from autumn and just two new ones for the year in Satellite and Dark Chestnut but after the first week there were very few catches.
December was even quieter, just two moths trapped and both on the same warm night between Christmas and New Year, this being my first winter though they were still both new to me.
January just the one Early moth added to the tally. Thankfully, the second part of February has begun to show better results, more of that later.
