End of May - still waiting for lift-off

Still on the launch pad in Luton but various of the usual pugs are putting in an appearance and they're fresh enough to be able to work out what most of them are. Only just starting to get the increased diversity of species that I usually get from end of April. Not sure our local bat isn't helping himself to a few either...

July / August changeover

Steady mothing over the last couple of weeks rather than anything over exciting but certainly better than early summer. Another new for garden from the list of uncommon and local species in the county.

 White Satin - first for garden on August 1st

Buff Arches - always get a handful of these each year and had a max on one night of three last year including one in the bedroom

Nut Tree Tussock - these arrive in two generations with records in April / May and July / August

Cloaked Minor - don't get many of these , average just two per year so far

Common Emerald - average three per year and usually they are battered so good to get one without chunks out of its wings

Late May roundup and a late NFG

Things beginning to pick up with the warm spell from mid-May though still well behind last year in species variety and numbers for the equivalent period. Finally picked up a Powdered Quaker as new for the garden at the end of their season just as I thought it might have slipped past me for the second year on the trot.

Early April and early risers

As recorded by other local trappers, the warm weather is bringing some moths to Wychwood Avenue that I would not have expected to have found until the end of April or May. Also gradually adding some of the more expected species to the list...

Sallow Kitten (new for year 7/4) - would not keep still !

Nut-tree Tussock (new for year - two individuals on 8/4)

Waved Umber (new for garden - 6/4)

Brindled Pug (new for garden 10/4)

Double-striped Pug (up to 5 per night) - brown and grey individuals
